Watch: Amy Poehler Performed an Amazing Bette Midler Cover with Jack Black
Between penning a New York Times bestselling memoir and earning a slew of awards for her iconic television roles, it’s pretty clear that Amy Poehler is one of the most versatile entertainers in Hollywood today.
The Newton native showed off one of her other talents over the weekend as the Parks and Recreation star joined Jack Black for a rendition of Bette Midler’s “The Rose” at Tenacious D’s Festival Supreme in Los Angeles.
Poehler, who performed during the comedy portion of the evening, surprised fans by returning to the stage in full rock star mode, donning a pair of dark shades with a cigarette in hand. After cracking a few jokes, she blew the audience away with her spot-on cover of the pop ballad.
This isn’t the first time that the actress has flaunted her singing skills.
Following the Saturday Night Live season finale in 2012, Poehler hopped on stage with the Foo Fighters and sang the Joan Jett classic “Bad Reputation” at the show’s afterparty. She also performed a hilarious cover of Katy Perry’s “Firework” at a Glamour magazine event later that year.
After hearing Poehler belt out “The Rose,” we can only hope that she has a collaborative album in the works with Midler. The Newton native is a big fan of the “Divine Miss M” after all.
