'If she could jinx the World Series, what else could she jinx?' the comedian said on Late Night with Seth Meyers.

Steven Wright the comedian—not the Red Sox pitcher—stopped by Late Night with Seth Meyers on Wednesday night.

Despite their team missing the playoffs this year, the pair of Boston fans chatted about the current World Series match-up between the Kansas City Royals and the New York Mets.

Wright, of course, couldn’t help but bring up the infamous series between the Red Sox and the Mets in 1986. The comedian admitted that he actually broke up with his girlfriend at the time because she seemingly jinxed the team while they were watching game six.

“It gets to be the seventh inning and she congratulates me…and then they lose the game, they lose the World Series. So I broke up with her,” Wright said. “If she could jinx the World Series, what else could she jinx?”

The Boston-bred comic said he takes his revenge every year by calling his ex-girlfriend, who’s from Chicago, to taunt her about the Cubs.

“Every year I call her, she lives in Chicago, and I congratulate her on the Cubs winning the World Series,” Wright joked.

That must’ve been a fun conversation this year since the Mets swept the Cubs.
