Six Billion Dollar Man Starring Mark Wahlberg Gets Official Release Date

'Gentleman, we can rebuild him. We have the technology.'

Expect a better, stronger, and faster Mark Wahlberg when his action reboot The Six Billion Dollar Man hits theaters.

According to Variety, Dimension Films has finally announced an official release date for the upcoming flick, which will be heading to the big screen on December 22, 2017.

Based on the cult television classic The Six Million Dollar Man as well as Martin Caidin’s novel Cyborg, the film is slated to start production next September.

The Boston-bred actor will be stepping in for Lee Majors as hero Steve Austin, a NASA astronaut who gets roped into a covert government experiment following a near fatal crash. Austin gets a second chance at life and some sweet high-tech gear when scientists rebuild him into a bionic superhero.

“We look forward to creating a Steve Austin for the 21st century,” Wahlberg told Variety.

The Six Billion Dollar Man will be written and directed by Wild Tales filmmaker Damián Szifron.

Hopefully Wahlberg and company have the technology to rebuild this popular franchise so that it’s a little less campy when it hits the silver screen in 2017.
