James Taylor and His Awful Song About the Red Sox Return to Fenway Park Next Summer

Fenway Park’s 2016 summer concert season is already coming into focus, with James Taylor set to play the Red Sox ballpark on August 3. And he’s probably bringing along his atrocious ode to the hometown nine, “Angels of Fenway,” with him.

Taylor will be joined next summer by Jackson Browne, and tickets go on sale Friday, November 20, via redsox.com. Portion of the proceeds from the show will support Action for Boston Community Development.

It will be Taylor’s second summer in a row out in front of the Green Monster. He played Fenway back in August, and has performed the national anthem during the 2004, 2007 and 2013 World Series.

“We are thrilled to welcome James Taylor back to Fenway Park for his second concert in two years,” says Red Sox President Sam Kennedy in a press statement. “From Stockbridge to Boston, reaching all the way up to the Angels of Fenway, I cannot think of anyone whose music resonates more with Bostonians and New Englanders. We look forward to his return in August.”

Adds Live Nation New England promoter Dave Marsden: “James Taylor’s performance at Fenway Park last summer has already reached the status of one of his best ever by his fans, and one of the most special concert events at the ballpark since the first shows in 2003. With another New England favorite Jackson Browne doing the honors of opening the show, we anticipate next summer’s encore to produce another unforgettable night!”

Taylor will also play Wrigley Field in Chicago on June 30. Watch “Angels of Fenway” below.
