Chris Pine stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday night to chat about his new film The Finest Hours, which he stars in opposite Casey Affleck.

Since the drama is set in Massachusetts, Pine had to work pretty hard on his Boston accent. The actor admitted that he was “petrified” of getting it wrong out of fear of what locals might think.

The late night host joked that if Pine screwed it up, he’d never be allowed back in Boston.

“They are very critical, well, of almost everything really, but especially that,” Kimmel said.

Since co-stars Affleck and Ben Foster hail from the Boston area, they gave Pine some tips during shooting. However, the actor didn’t think their advice was all that helpful.

“I had a whole grip of people that were giving what they thought were helpful hints which just turned out to be just awful,” Pine said.

Pine showed off a bit of his Boston accent for Kimmel, particularly the “aht” sound that comes with the letter O.

The comedian tried his hand at it while sneaking in a jab at the Patriots’ recent misfortune.

“You kind of skim over that vowel,” Pine said.

“Like the Patriots are naht in the Super Bowl,” Kimmel quipped.
