A few days after the one-year anniversary of Riot Grrrl Day in Boston, April 14 has been declared Peter Wolf Day by the mayor’s office.

The Boston rock legend and J. Geils Band frontman will be honored today by Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh for his decades-long contributions to rock and roll and the city. Wolf’s eighth solo album, A Cure For Loneliness, dropped last week, and he’s about to set off on a spring and summer tour that brings him home to the Somerville Theatre on May 12 and the Lowell Music Series on August 20.

A private ceremony and performance for the city’s homeless veterans will be held later today.

“It’s a great honor to be recognized by the city that’s been my home since I first came to Boston to study painting as a young art student,” says Wolf in a press release. “It is my sincere hope that this event will help our Mayor in his initiative to create awareness and to provide care and support for our homeless veterans who have already given so much.”

In addition to last year’s Riot Grrrl Day, Boston has also celebrated Godsmack Day (August 6, 2014), Guster Day (January 15, 2015), Patti Smith Day (October 10, 2015), and Trevor Noah Day (February 12, 2016).
