High school students are teaming up with an international artist to bring a new mural to Central Square.

Students from the NuVu Studio and contemporary artist Shilo Suleman will be working on a project titled “Belonging,” which is scheduled to be completed by the end of this week. The mural will be located on the side of Desi Dhaba on Columbia Street in Cambridge.

According to a press release, “Belonging” draws inspiration from the area’s “transient population,” ranging from college students and “cantabrigian locals” to the city’s vibrant immigrant communities. The mural will also explore the “imminent threat of gentrification” as well as feature the famed Charles River.

The question at the core of the project is, “What makes us feel like we belong?” and the artists hope to show the diversity of Central Square by highlighting how the different groups intersect.

Suleman will be on-site with the students to finish the mural on Friday, April 22.
