Nantucket Film Festival to Honor Molly Shannon, Oliver Stone
Molly Shannon, Oliver Stone, and more stars are set to appear at this year’s Nantucket Film Festival.
Organizers announced on Wednesday that the former Saturday Night Live cast member will be the 2016 recipient of the Compass Rose Acting Award. The annual honor, which recognizes actors who inspires people through cinematic storytelling, has previously gone to Frank Langella, Robert Duvall, Vera Farming, and Meg Ryan.
Actor Michael Ian Black will present Shannon with the award at the “In Their Shoes” event hosted by NFF board member and MSNBC political commentator Chris Matthews.
The festival announced earlier this spring that Stone will be the 2016 recipient of the Screenwriters Tribute Award. Bennett Miller is set to present the Academy Award-winning director with the honor at an event hosted by Late Night comedian Seth Meyers.
Other honorees include filmmaker Sian Heder, who will receive the New Voices in Screenwriting Award. The Cambridge native’s film Tallulah, featuring Ellen Page and Allison Janney, is scheduled to be shown at the festival as the Spotlight Film.
Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady will also be honored as they are set to receive the Special Achievement in Documentary Storytelling Award. Their film Norman Lear: Just Another Version of You will be screened as the NFF’s Centerpiece Film.
“We are proud to honor the powerful and astonishingly talented women announced as awards recipients at this year’s festival,” NFF executive director Mystelle Brabbée said in a statement. “With today’s additions to our 2016 slate, we continue to expand our audience’s experience while bolstering our position as one of the country’s leading film festivals for screenwriting and multi-platform entertainment.”
The festival will take place June 22-27. For a full schedule of programming and more information, check out nantucketfilmfestival.org.
