Chris Evans Talks Tom Brady, Awkward Ben Affleck Moment with Chelsea Handler
Chelsea Handler had a dinner party with Chris Evans and the cast of Captain America: Civil War during a recent episode of her new Netflix talk show.
As the comedian shared a meal and a few drinks with her Avengers pals, she also prodded Evans on being a Patriots fan and growing up in Boston. The man behind the Captain America mask called Tom Brady a “real hero,” which didn’t sit well with his co-star Frank Grillo, who plays the villainous Crossbones.
“Hold on, I want to stab myself in the face,” Grillo joked.
Things got a little tense between Captain America and his Marvel movie rival when Evans praised the quarterback’s skills on the gridiron, prompting Grillo to bash Brady over Deflategate.
“He does what very few people can do,” Evans said.
“Oh what, cheat?” Grillo replied.
After Evans jokingly remarked that he was going to flip over the dinner table, Handler asked him a few more questions about his connections to Boston.
The Captain America star revealed that he had an awkward moment with fellow local Ben Affleck when they met to talk about a part in Gone Baby Gone. Here’s Evans’s description of how things went down:
I was walking down the hall and I heard somebody say as I passed the room, ‘Oh there he is.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, that’s Ben.’ As soon as I turned around, I just got nervous. He’s a big dude, I shook his hand, and for no reason, out of pure nervousness, my mouth was just like, ‘Is it going to be OK where I parked?’ He was like, ‘Where’d you park?’ And I was like, ‘At a meter.’ And he was like, ‘Did you put money in the meter?’ I was like, ‘Yeah.’ He was like, ‘I think you’re going to be alright.’
The no-so-smooth encounter didn’t help Evans much as he added, “I didn’t get the job.”
