Aly Raisman Wins Silver Medal in the All-Around (and Praise from Big Papi)
Aly Raisman added another medal to her collection Thursday at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. After a flawless qualifying session and an impressive team performance, Needham’s gymnastics star earned a silver medal in the individual all-around. Americans won both of the top spots as Simone Biles dominated her way to a gold medal with a final score of 62.198 points.
Although she came up short of first place this time around, it was still a huge moment for Raisman. She missed the podium for the all-around due to a tiebreaker situation at the 2012 Olympics in London. After completing the final event on the floor Thursday, Raisman immediately began crying.
In addition to the silver medal, Raisman added another celebrity shoutout to her collection. This time, it was none other than Red Sox slugger David Ortiz who congratulated the gymnast on her big day. Big Papi tweeted a touching note to Raisman, saying that she made “Boston proud” with her performance.
Congrats to my good friend @Aly_Raisman on the silver medal…makin Boston proud as usual!! 🇺🇸 #BostonStrong

Boston athletes are pretty good at this whole winning thing, aren’t they?
