Kenan Thompson’s ‘Big Papi’ Returned for SNL Season Premiere
Saturday Night Live pulled out some of its biggest comedy guns for this weekend’s highly anticipated season 42 premiere, so naturally that meant Kenan Thompson’s hilarious David Ortiz impression had to return to Weekend Update.
The skit featured “Big Papi” talking with Colin Jost about his final series ever at Yankee Stadium, as well as his latest comical endorsements. The show also gave a wink to the Red Sox slugger’s recent turn as a Lyft driver with a joke about his new transportation app “Lift.”
“You need to go somewhere?” Thompson says as Ortiz. “Lift your ass off the couch and walk man, because I’m not driving you.”
The Ortiz sketch was just one of many highlights from the SNL season premiere.
The evening also featured A-list celebrity guest stars such as Suicide Squad actress Margot Robbie and hip-hop singer The Weeknd, as well as the debut of Alec Baldwin’s Donald Trump impression. The actor traded jokes with Emmy Award winner Kate McKinnon’s Hillary Clinton in a parody of the recent presidential debate.
Check out the full cold open, including Weekend Update co-host Michael Che’s Lester Holt impersonation, in the clip below.
