Octavia Spencer Will Be Hasty Pudding’s Woman of the Year 2017
Hidden Figures star Octavia Spencer has been chosen as the Hasty Pudding Woman of the Year for 2017. She joins Ryan Reynolds in being honored by the theatrical organization, which is the oldest in the country. She’ll get a parade of her own on January 26, followed by a “celebratory roast” at the university, where she’ll receive her ceremonial pudding pot. The festivities begin at 3 p.m. with the parade, in case you need to sneak out of work early to go cheer her on.
Spencer, who won an Oscar for her role in The Help, made news recently by buying out showings of her movie for low-income families, so she seems like a fine candidate to honor this year. In a statement, Hasty Pudding Theatricals’ Co-producer Adam Chiavacci said, “We could not be more excited to offer Ms Spencer our Woman of the Year award. We are humbled by her talent and are so honored that our little Pudding pot will be sitting alongside Ms Spencer’s Oscar and Golden Globe on her mantle.”
She joins a long list of impressive fellow honorees including Meryl Streep, Katharine Hepburn, and last year’s honoree, Kerry Washington. We’re not sure if she’s aiming for EGOT status, but this award doesn’t hurt, right?
