Watch BU Grads ‘Sons of Serendip’ Perform on America’s Got Talent

Time and time again, we’ve been wowed by the students at Berklee College of Music, but on Tuesday night’s episode of America’s Got Talent, a group of Boston University graduates proved that musical talent is blossoming on that campus, too.

Sons of Serendip, a quartet that met at BU while all four were earning their master’s degrees in music, law, and divinity, performed Keane’s “Somewhere Only We Know” for judges Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum, and Howard Stern in front of a packed audience in New York.

The sweet rendition impressed the judges, and Stern was happy to hear that the group represented BU—Stern himself graduated from the school’s College of Communications in 1976.

Sons of Serendip comprises vocalist Micah Christian (Master of Divinity), pianist and guitarist Cordaro Rodriguez (Juris Doctorate), harpist Mason Morton (Master of Music), and cellist-composer-vocalist Kendall Ramseur (Master of Music).

Christian, of Randolph, told the Globe that when the group went to Madison Square Garden to audition, a woman assumed they were there for a basketball tournament. But no, they were there to sing and play music.

“It kind of transported me somewhere else,” said Mel B of their performance, which brought the crowd to their feet and even a few tears.

All four America’s Got Talent judges had positive feedback for the group and voted Sons of Serendip—whose name comes from the Persian story “The Three Princes of Serendip”—on to the next round on the show.
