Mayor Marty Walsh Declares October 10 Patti Smith Day

From Guster to Stan Lee, Boston has a lot of days dedicated to celebrating celebrities, and now the city is honoring a new famous face: Patti Smith.
Mayor Marty Walsh announced via Twitter on Friday that October 10 will forever be known as Patti Smith Day.

The news coincides with the punk rock queen’s upcoming appearance at a Harvard Book Store event on Saturday night. Smith will be stopping by the Back Bay Event Center to sign copies of her latest memoir M Train.
While fans of the music legend have lauded Smith for decades, she recently admitted to Democracy Now! that she doesn’t really consider herself a great musician.
“I always counsel people when they call me a musician,” Smith said. “I really don’t have the skills of a musician. I really don’t think like a musician, though I love music and I perform and sing.”
Smith may downplay her musical talents, but that won’t dissuade Boston punk fans from celebrating the iconic performer.
