Rachel Dratch Learned 1920s Football Slang for a Patriots Super Bowl Party

If you’re wondering who to play in your fantasy league this weekend, don’t ask Rachel Dratch.

The Saturday Night Live alum is admittedly not the biggest football fan in the world, a fact she embarrassingly once proved while watching the Patriots at a Super Bowl party.

According to Seth Meyers, Dratch tried to impress the late-night host and her other pals by researching some of the sport’s slang. However, she didn’t realize that the terms she memorized were pretty outdated.

“It became very clear that Dratch had looked up 1920s football terms,” Meyers joked during her appearance on Monday’s episode of Late Night. “Everything she said was a defunct football term.”

The comedian caught on to the Lexington native’s schtick when she used the word “birdcage,” which is apparently old-timey slang for helmet.

“We got to pull a birdcage on this one,” Dratch recalled telling Meyers at the party.

His response: “What are you talking about?”
