Tim Gunn Visits Designer Kelly’s Springfield Home on Project Runway Finale
Designer Kelly Dempsey received a visit from Tim Gunn during part one of the Project Runway finale on Thursday night.
The season 14 finalist and Massachusetts native welcomed the fashion consultant to her Springfield home, where she showed off all of her hard work in preparation for New York Fashion Week.
The usually critical Gunn seemed pretty impressed with Dempsey, who surprisingly had 10 different designs already completed.
“What you have here is a show, you have a real show,” Gunn said.
Dempsey joked that she got a lot done in such a short amount of time because she didn’t want to be “sitting with my ass in the wind.”
After reviewing all of the outfits, Gunn joined the designer and her family for a bite to eat at Pasquale’s Restaurant in East Longmeadow.
Dempsey then brought Gunn to the deli where she once worked, Bob’s Italian Foods in Medford.
While the Project Runway co-host looked a bit out of place in the not-so-chic eatery, he seemed flattered that they created a sandwich for him called the Big “Gunn” Milanese, which fans can still order at the local food store.
Following Gunn’s visits to each of the contestants’ hometowns, the remaining designers were sent back to their work room in New York where they had to complete a three-piece collection for one last challenge.
Despite impressing judge Zac Posen, Dempsey got harsh critiques from host Heidi Klum and critic Nina Garcia.
“There’s something very throw away about these clothes,” Garcia said.
The Massachusetts born designer wasn’t the only one to get a tongue-lashing from the judges, as each of the contestants were served reality checks about their designs.
Fortunately, there was no elimination this episode as they’ll all be going head-to-head during New York Fashion Week in the second half of the season finale.
Will Dempsey bring the crown home to the Bay State? Guess we’ll have to wait until next week to find out.
The ‘Project Runway’ season 14 finale airs Thursday, November 5 at 9 p.m. on Lifetime.
