Joseph Gordon-Levitt Is Hasty Pudding’s Man of the Year 2016

He's the 50th person to receive the honor.

Following the announcement that Kerry Washington would be Hasty Pudding’s Woman of the Year, the Harvard organization revealed on Thursday morning that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be honored as the 2016 Man of the Year.

The Emmy-winning actor will be heading to town to accept the award on Friday, February 5.

“No emoji can express how excited we are about having Joseph Gordon-Levitt as our 50th Man of the Year.” Bobby Fitzpatrick, President of the Hasty Pudding Theatricals, said in a statement. “We anxiously await Mr. Gordon-Levitt’s arrival, as he begins his slow journey to the Hasty Pudding Theatricals on a small rope from L.A. to Cambridge.”

It’s a well deserved honor for Gordon-Levitt, who’s come a long way since his breakout role on the NBC comedy 3rd Rock from the Sun. The actor is set to appear in Snowden, Oliver Stone’s upcoming biopic about whistleblower Edward Snowden, and recently starred in hits like The Walk and The Night Before.

Gordon-Levitt will be the 50th recipient of the Man of the Year award, which was established in 1963. Past honorees include Chris Pratt, Tom Cruise, Robert de Niro, Harrison Ford, Justin Timberlake, and James Franco.

“Perusing the impressive list of past Hasty Pudding Men Of The Year, I’m simultaneously struck with intense delusions of grandeur and mild waves of humility,” Gordon-Levitt said in a statement.

The festivities will include the traditional roast and parade around Harvard Square. It will also feature a performance of the Pudding’s latest production That 1770s Show.
