Return of the Romneys

Our world has been a little less vibrant since Mitt Romney suspended his campaign. Food doesn’t taste as good. We sometimes have trouble getting out of bed. Our loved ones are worried about us.

We know eventually another local politician will go national (even if it’s not Gov. Deval Patrick) and we will move on. But until then, we’ve got another bit of news from the Romney camp to bring a little light into our lives.

The Los Angeles Times has two bits of Romney-related news on its blog today. The first is that second-favorite son (per Mitt’s MySpace Top 16) Josh Romney hinted that his father could reenter the race if Sen. John McCain’s campaign implodes after last week’s lobbyist bombshell.

Romney replies that it’s “possible.” Then, he adds, “unlikely, but possible.”

Hey, Josh, this is the political season of miracles. Mike Huckabee has deemed it so. As Journey once said, ‘Don’t stop believin’.’

The second bit of news is that Josh is pondering his own foray into politics.

After a full year of campaigning for his father around the country, Josh Romney, who is the only Romney clan member to reside in Utah, is reported to be considering a race for the House of Representatives as a Republican representing Utah’s 2nd Congressional District, a seat currently held by Democrat Jim Matheson.

In an interview with the Deseret Morning News to be published in Monday’s editions, the younger Romney acknowledges that he is considering the House race. “I’m pretty young,” he says, “but I’ve had good experience on the campaign trail.” He campaigned for his father all year and invested the summer visiting each of Iowa’s 99 counties.

It’s good to have something to look forward to in the event that Mitt’s candidacy doesn’t return from its current purgatory-like state. We just wish it were Tagg Romney who was considering a run for office, since he’s closer to home.
