Snacking for a Good Cause

After a long cold winter, baseball returns to Boston tomorrow. We’re excited to spend the afternoon at the ballpark, gorging ourselves on Fenway Franks and peanuts. (Though we’re going to avoid washing our food down with bottled Sam Adams.)

If you’re in Kenmore Square tomorrow, be sure to save some room in your dining schedule for a good cause. Alex’s Lemon Krimpets make their debut outside the Sovereign Bank from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Philadelphia-based Tastykake (ed. note: also known as the greatest snack food ever) developed the treat in honor of Alexandra Scott, a 4-year-old cancer patient who decided to sell lemonade on her front lawn to help raise money to find a cure for cancer. She died in 2004 at the age of 8, but raised over $1 million for childhood cancer research during her lifetime and inspired her family to begin Alex’s Lemonade Stand Fund.

Alexandra’s father Jay Scott will be at tomorrow’s lemonade stand to hand out samples of the lemon-filled sponge cake and glasses of lemonade. Donations will be accepted for the fund. If you like the limited-edition snack, you can buy more at your local grocery store after the game. It’s also guilt-free snacking (sort of)—10 percent of the proceeds from every package will be donated to the fund.
