Ross to the Globe; Chabot Named Herald’s New State House Reporter

1213203172Early this morning, a Boston Daily tipster informed us that the Globe had poached powerful journo Casey Ross from the Herald. Soon after, the report surfaced on Adam Reilly’s blog. We called Herald editor Kevin Convey to get confirmation and find out who will cover State House politics now that Ross is gone.

“It’s true,” Convey said, sounding remarkably upbeat for a guy who just lost one of his best writers. “He’s going to the Globe. We’ll certainly miss Casey. But we’re happy to say that, effective immediately, we’re promoting Hillary Chabot to State House Bureau Chief.”

Ross’s last day with the tabloid will be June 20. Chabot isn’t entirely new to covering Beacon Hill—before moving to the Herald, she covered the beat for the Lowell Sun.

Details of Ross’s new gig remain sketchy. Convey says he thinks Ross has taken a job as a transportation reporter, while other sources tell us he may be covering commercial real estate for the Globe’s Steve Bailey-less business section.

When we learn more, we’ll let you know.

[Update: Adam Reilly reports that Ross will be covering “commercial real estate and the nexus of business and politics.” Whoa.]
