Stuff We Love: JoJo Loves You

When it comes to things that sparkle, I’m a total magpie. I’ve been making my own jewelry since I was eight years old, go out of my way to attend gem and bead shows, and have stashes of handmade baubles all over the house — no surprise, then, that I swooned over local jewelry designer Josie Hewitt’s “Bling” earrings.

Hewitt (no relation to J-Love) has been crafting jewelry since 2002 and started her own company, JoJo Loves You, when she was just 22. Hewitt, who has a wicked sense of humor and a fondness for the color pink, makes one-of-a-kind necklaces and bracelets, but the Bling studs — simple and versatile Swarovski crystals — are by far her best sellers. And after perusing the hypnotizing selection of colors at her South End studio where all jewelry is put together by hand, I understood why. First I thought opalescent yellow would be snazzy. Then turquoise. But fuchsia with a rainbow sheen was pretty great, too. So go figure, I finally settled on olive; but it’s certainly not the last pair I’ll have…these things are like Girl Scout Cookies. You can’t have just one.
