Testing: Epicuren Herbal Cleanser

I’ll be honest: I have cranky skin. Finding the right face cleanser is always an epic chore, thanks to combination skin that’s both oily and dry (and annoying). Sure, I can find something that gets the job done — but it always seems to necessitate the use of some special cream here or oil control there. Who has time for all that damage control?

Epicuren is an enzyme-based skincare line out of California. And I have to say, this is hands down the best face wash I’ve ever used. It’s super-gentle — usually, after I wash my face, my skin feels dry and tight if I don’t slather moisturizer all over it right away. The subtly scented Herbal Cleanser soaps up lightly — no gratuitous foam here, thanks to coconut- and soy-based surfactants, which maintain the skin’s PH levels, unlike the chemical sulfates found in most of the cleansers I’ve used in the past (Clean & Clear, I’m looking at you).

The only downside is the $28 price tag — but considering a two-ounce bottle will last me at least three months, it’s a price I’m willing to pay at least once. But in the meantime, I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for an equally effective product made from natural ingredients with a more wallet-friendly price tag, and if I find it, I’ll let you know.
