Haute Coco: Chanel Opens a New Boutique on Newbury Street
Just in case you needed further proof of the Back Bay’s rebound from its recession-era doldrums, this month Chanel’s new two-floor, 10,000-square-foot home opens on the first block of Newbury. Peter Marino designed the transporting boutique to evoke Coco Chanel’s Paris apartment—see: French limestone exterior, Goossens chandelier, Antoine Poncet and Jean-Michel Othoniel artwork. The gilded salon on the ground level showcases exotic, unapologetically luxe accessories like this lipstick-red alligator handbag, and the second floor is home to shoes and ready-to-wear collections (first off: resort!) to complete that fresh-from-the-Champs-Élysées look.
