Dress, Readdressed: A Beloved Store Reopens on Charles Street

The shuttering of beloved Newbury Street boutique Dress in the summer of 2012 dealt local fashionistas a hard-to-recover-from blow. (To make matters worse, Stel’s closed around the same time.) Happily, owners Martha Pickett and Jane Schlueter reopened the girly-cool clothing shop in September in the historical Charles Street Meeting House. “So many people became our friends over the years; it was nice to see everyone we hadn’t seen in a while,” Pickett says. In addition to the designers that defined Dress’s first iteration—like Vanessa Bruno and Loeffler Randall—the store is stocking A.P.C., Lizzie Fortunato, Ulla Johnson, and other fresh lines for spring. The chic cherry on top: A collection of new and vintage housewares curated by interior designer Nina Farmer, who decked out the lovely space with herringbone floors and brass chandeliers—beacons of style beckoning the city’s well heeled.
