‘Fashion Project’ Teams Up With the Jimmy Fund

Fashion Project, a company that takes slightly used clothing and turns it into charity dollars, has teamed up with Lord & Taylor and the Jimmy Fund to help support ongoing research efforts and bring life saving treatments to cancer patients.

Now, before you start filling garbage bags with your old clothes, take note that this company accepts brands such as Prada and Diane von Furstenberg, and doesn’t accept your old Express pants or Forever 21 top. There’s a “brand qualifying list” to guide you in your closet revamp, but to help get you started, think BCBG, not Bebe.

Ready to start the purge? You just order a free collection bag (no garbage bags allowed) and the company sends it to you with a pre-paid postage label. Then, it’s time to clean. Items can be women’s (and limited men’s) clothing, shoes, handbags, and accessories that are in nearly new or great condition, which means no fading, stains, or tears. Next, you ship it out and your items are listed on Fashion Project’s website, with 55 percent of the net proceeds going to Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund. You’ll also get a $20 Lord & Taylor gift card for every five qualifying items.

Now for the fine print: In addition to making sure that what you are donating is “approved,” there are some items that are never accepted, no matter the brand. Children’s clothing, bathing suits, intimates, inauthentic (you know who you are), and altered items are not accepted. But don’t worry, you could always try one of Southie’s chic consignment stores.
