Bronze Beauty

August in Boston tends to run hot and steamy, but you can still look as cool as a cucumber with these humidity-busting tips from makeup artist Tavi de la Rosa.

Glow Sans Sun

“In the summer, everything needs to be simple,” says de la Rosa, who recommends Kate Somerville’s Somerville360 self-tanning pads ($45, Neiman Marcus) for an even, bronze tone wherever you want a touch of sun.

Get Primed

To keep your warm-weather foundation coverage thin and even, first apply Laura Mercier Radiance primer ($34, Sephora) with a sponge on clean, moisturized skin, de la Rosa says.

Protect and Perfect

Amore Pacific color-control cushion compact ($60, Neiman Marcus) gives you a flawless finish—plus the benefit of SPF 50. “It’s unbelievable because it’s super-light, making it perfect for summertime,” he says.

Punch Up Your Pout

A gentle but lasting glossy stain like Yves Saint Laurent Vernis à Lèvres Pop Water ($36, Neiman Marcus), which de la Rosa prefers in “Eau de Corail,” “Pink Rain,” and “Misty Pink,” doesn’t require constant retouching. Apply with the wand, wait 10 seconds, and then put on a second coat.

Frame the Face

Fill in brows with Bobbi Brown’s Perfectly Defined long-wear brow pencil ($42, Saks Fifth Avenue) to add definition to the face.

Avoid Drips

Bold lashes are always in style, but in the heat, waterproof Sisley So Intense mascara in “Deep Black” ($67, Neiman Marcus) is a must, de la Rosa says.

Accentuate the Positives

Using a large powder brush, sweep Chanel Lumière d’Été illuminating powder ($65, Chanel) across the cheeks, the T-zone, and the neck. But don’t go overboard: “It’s just for highlights,” de la Rosa warns.

Find a Shadow That Lasts

Chantecaille Le Chrome Luxe Eye Duo ($58, Barneys New York) in “Gardens of Marrakech” complements every eye color, says de la Rosa, who adds that gel-emulsion shadows will hold as you move from hot to cold temperatures.

Lock It In

Natura Bisse Diamond Mist ($90, Barneys New York) sets makeup while hydrating the skin. It’s also a nice spot refresher. “Everyone should have one in their bag!” de la Rosa says.
