Uniqlo Opens on Newbury Street This Week
Japanese retailer Uniqlo will open its second Boston location on Newbury Street this Friday, November 18, so there’ll be no excuse for a lack of quality basics in your closet this season.
Highlighting its coveted address, the two-floor, 10,000-square-foot store will have a distinctly Bostonian feel. Amidst a characteristically minimalistic aesthetic, it will feature visuals that connect to the brand’s local partnerships, including the Institute of Contemporary Art’s teen arts education program.
The trendy new space would not be complete, however, without its popular selection of loungewear, outerwear, and everyday apparel. As the building blocks of any wardrobe, garments are offered in a range of styles from professional to athleisure. Customers can choose from winter favorites like cozy socks and tops featuring HeatTech, which works with the wearer’s natural body heat to protect against the cold, as well as ultra-light down coats and affordable cashmere sweaters (that’s right, cashmere). And with an attention to quality craftsmanship and durable materials, the clothing will last you more than a few wears—a feat seldom achieved by most other fast fashion retail chains.
“Newbury Street is a fashion destination visited by locals, professionals, students, and tourists alike,” said USA Uniqlo CEO Hiroshi Taki. “We feel our product offering of casual, comfortable clothing with nods to the current trends will be a great addition to the area.”
It seems Uniqlo is setting a precedent for Japanese retailers in Boston. Come January 2017, Muji will be debuting its first Bay State location just a few doors down at 359 Newbury Street. The new-age brand, whose name translates to “no brand—quality goods,” will offer a variety of simplistic stationery, furniture, home goods, and apparel, as well as a collection of unique Asian-inspired snacks and teas.
Uniqlo’s latest Boston location marks one of the label’s 1,800 stores worldwide. Check out all the versatile wears when the storefront opens this week, or visit any one of Uniqlo’s other Massachusetts locations at Faneuil Hall, Chestnut Hill, Dedham, Natick, and Peabody.
