We are located within the White Building of Newton Wellesley Hospital. Our practice welcomes new patients and always happy to see and treat our current friends/patients. We are a small office with 4 ophthalmic technicians.

We are glad to have Dr. Ceida Chan, an Optometrist and Dr. Santiago Villazon, a Cataract Surgeon on staff 1-day a week as well as Dr. Sheldon Buzney a Retina Specialist 1-day a month.

Awards or Certifications

He received the Arthur Rosenbaum Research Prize for most outstanding research by a Washington University ophthalmology resident in 2001 and has presented his work at numerous national meetings.

What's your background, education and training?

Dr. Leibole was raised in Northern Michigan where he graduated Valedictorian from Ludington High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University, summa cum laude. He received his medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine along with an MA in ocular immunology. Following his internship at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center, Dr. Leibole performed his clinical residency in ophthalmology at Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University School of Medicine.

1. Best Ophthalmologist! Thanks to Dr. Leibole who has found both of my retina detachments! He takes his time with each patient to makes sure he answers all questions, exams are thorough and detailed. He will give you an honest opinion and recommendation. He also has the most caring and compassionate staff members in his office, from check in, office manager and techs everyone is so engaged in providing best patient care. This is great practice, I highly recommend them.

2. “I had chronic pain in my eyes throughout my life and had been seen by several doctors, who were unable to determine the source of pain and recommended eye drops for “dry eye syndrome.” At my first visit, Dr. Leibole realized that I had chronic allergies under my eyelids which were irritated by my contact lenses. He was the first doctor to notice this. I asked for LASIK and he encouraged me to wait at least 6 months to be sure that he couldn’t solve my problem without surgery. Also, he wanted to be sure I was a good candidate. I did end up having the surgery and I have been more than pleased with the process and the result. Not only is my vision excellent, but four years later, I have had absolutely zero pain in my eyes. Now that I have two kids, I cannot imagine struggling with painful eyes or dealing with glasses. Doing Lasik with dr. Leibole was the best decision I ever made! He is extremely honest, thorough and I would never go to a surgery mill especially if there are any complicating factors. I have recommended many friends and family member to have Lasik done with dr. Leibole and would only see him for my eye care, because he is truly the best.”

3. Dr. Leibole is one of the best doctors I’ve ever had. He performed my Lasik surgery last November and did a perfect job. When I explained I was moving overseas soon, he was willing to squeeze me into his already busy schedule. He even personally called another ophthalmologist and set up my cataract appointment for my other eye. Talk about going the extra mile! He takes time to educate you, and is sharp, knowledgeable, kind, and caring. I love his staff – exceptionally friendly and helpful.
