Overeaters Can Now Add Memory Loss to Plate of Health Risks

Overeaters Can Now Add Memory Loss to Plate of Health Risks. A new study conducted at the Mayo Clinic and based on results from more than 1,200 people in their 70s and 80s indicates that older people taking in more calories per day (at least 2,143 calories) could be increasing their chances of developing mild cognitive impairment (MCI), which in some cases can lead to Alzheimer’s disease. The researchers’ best guess as to how this could be happening may be that overeating could be creating free radicals, which would in turn be damaging neurons. Although the findings have yet to confirm that overeating is an official cause of memory loss, the link is another in a long line of alarming trends tied to excess consumption. [CNN | Mayo Clinic]
