Taco Bell's Beefy Nacho Burrito: Yes, Nachos IN a Burrito
Nachos in a burrito? Yeah, that’s not a joke. (Photos via Thinkstock.)
I’m not sure why I continue to be amazed by the most recent fast food creations. It seems that every day, there’s a new, over-the-top, calorie- and fat-laden meal on the menu somewhere. Hamburgers in pizza crust? Check. Doritos as a taco shell? Check. A bacon sundae? Yep, there’s that, too.
On May 23, Taco Bell released the Taco Bell Beefy Nacho Burrito — a 470-calorie burrito with nachos on the inside. Yes, now you can eat your nachos and burrito at one time! It packs 470 calories and 6 grams of unhealthy saturated fat. Try the Burrito Supreme with Steak instead and you save almost 100 calories and a gram of saturated fat. Even better — go for a Fresco Bean Burrito with only 350 calories and 2.5 grams of saturated fat.
Taco Bell is no stranger to strange foods: The Doritos Locos Tacos Supreme hit menus nationwide on March 8. Their website even featured a countdown. The shell alone has 170 calories and 3.5 grams of heart-unhealthy saturated fat. (Switch to the Fresco crunchy taco, and you not only get all the taco fillings, but you save 20 calories and 1.5 grams of saturated fat.)
The Burger King Bacon Sundae entered the market in April of this year. And being a Tennessee girl, I was not too happy to hear it was released in one city in all of America — Nashville, Tenn. I get it, salty and sweet goes together like peanut butter and jelly, but bacon and ice cream at a drive-thru? Nutrition facts aren’t available (because it’s not available nationwide) — but a similar item, Maple Bacon Sundae at Denny’s, served for a limited time in 2011, packed 810 calories and 40 grams of fat, according to Snack Girl. That’s almost as many calories as a Burger King WHOPPER JR. sandwich and a large order of fries. I have a feeling the Burger King creation can’t be far behind.
A few years ago, KFC released it’s Double Down, a sandwich with two fried chicken patties instead of a bun. Just in time for the low-carb craze, this sandwich must have been popular because it’s still on the menu today. With 610 calories and 11 grams of saturated fat, you are better off avoiding this sandwich all together. Opt for KFC’s grilled chicken breast instead with only 220 calories and 2 grams of saturated fat.
And last, but not least, is Pizza Hut. Their latest creations really have my head spinning. If you can’t choose between pizza and a hot dog, pizza and a hamburger, or even pizza and chicken strips, why not have both? Pizza Hut released a pizza with the crust stuffed with hamburgers, hot dogs, or chicken strips. So far, the hamburger and chicken pizzas have only popped up in the Middle East, and the hot dog pizza is only available in the United Kingdom. The nutrition facts are not available for any of the latest pizza creations, but knowing that the standard hot dog has around 150 calories and a slice of Supreme stuffed crust pizza at Pizza Hut has 420 calories, the combination of the two can’t be a low-calorie option.
