Half of Massachusetts women have experienced some kind of sexual violence. The numbers are shocking, but the men of the Commonwealth aren’t sitting back doing nothing. Tomorrow marks White Ribbon Day, an event hosted by the Massachusetts Coalition Against Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence encouraging men to come together to end the culture of sexual violence. All men are welcomed to this day promoting the values of equality, human rights, and safety.

“A Spoonful of Ginger,” an event sponsored by Joslin Diabetes Center, will be held March 18. Proceeds from this awareness event go to the research, care, and education conducted by Joslin’s Asian American Diabetes Initiative, and the event will feature the delicious treats of Harvard Sweet Boutique. Founder Sue George—herself a type 1 diabetic—developed a line of gluten-free, low-carb products at her bakery for those living with dietary restrictions as a result of things like diabetes and celiac disease.

Michelle Obama’s latest effort to end childhood obesity has roots in Mass. An update to her 3-year-old Let’s Move! campaign, the first lady‘s Let’s Move Active Schools program, a plan aimed at working more physical activity into the school day, is partnering with Tufts University-based ChildObesity180. The organization brings experts from a variety of fields together with the ultimate goal of ending the ever-growing trend of overweight children.
Boston-based City Sports is opening a new store in Chestnut Hill. The grand opening ceremony will take place March 16, complete with product giveaways, a fun run, music, and an appearance by former Patriots’ offensive tackle Matt White. It’s the perfect place to pick up some new duds for trips to some of the city’s new gyms.
