The Best Hotel Gyms in Boston
Boston is an international hub for business and innovation, and many of its hotels are ranked as the best in the world. But up until the past few years, hotel gyms were often lacking—even at the swankiest places in town.
Most of the time, the hotel gym would be in a windowless basement room, perhaps with a fresh coat of paint and new mat-like flooring, but still not a place you want to go and work out in. If you were lucky enough to find a gym with a window, it was usually a closet-sized room with a treadmill and a mirror. But lately, there’s been a growing trend of hotel guests asking about the gym when making reservations, and Boston hotels have taken notice.
We rounded-up some of the city’s nicest hotel gyms:
The Fairmont Copley Plaza‘s recently renovated gym looks like a luxury spa (see above). The new rooftop health club features brand new treadmills and ellipticals with individual entertainment systems, weight machines, resistance training equipment, free weights and benches, and a large area to stretch and cool down. Floor-to-ceiling windows with Back Bay views and an outdoor deck make this one of the best hotel gyms in town.
The Sports Club/LA is a private club not affiliated with the Ritz Carlton, Boston Common, except it does share the same walls. The gym is the fitness facility for the hotel, but guests have to pay a $15 day-rate for use of the club. You get to use all of the Sports Club/LA state-of-the-art-equipment, spa amenities like a steam room and a sauna, a pool, group fitness classes, and racquetball and basketball courts. Because this is a private, members-only health club next door to the hotel, you can’t just walk in off the street (sorry, locals). If you are staying at another hotel and live out of state, you can pay a $35 rate each day. If you are a local, you have to show up with a member and pay the $35 rate. Either that, or sit through the membership lecture.
Wave Health and Fitness is a private health club located in the Seaport Hotel offering stunning views and luxury gym amenities. Locker rooms with steam rooms and all the cardio and weight equipment you could ask for is free when you’re a guest of the hotel. But if you want to take a group fitness class like yoga, you’ll have to pay a $15 charge. Want to bring your local friend? Wave offers a $20 day pass for walk-ins.
All Langham Boston hotel guests get complimentary access to the Chuan Body + Soul spa facilities during their stay. The treadmills overlook the pool and weights area (see above) with a whirlpool, sauna, lockers, and complimentary towel service. There are no classes but private memberships are also available if you live or work nearby. Chuan also offers full spa services like traditional Chinese massage, salt scrubs, body wraps, and facials.
