Cool Places To Do Yoga
It’s summer, so why not get out of the gym or studio and try something new? We rounded up some of the most unique places in town to do yoga so you can enjoy the summer and stay fit, too.
In a flower shop.
In what will probably be the best smelling yoga class ever (and that’s saying something since, you know, yoga classes can smell awful), Equinox hosts a weekly yoga class at Winston Flowers & Garden (11 Florence Street, Newton). Members can practice their postures while smelling the lovely scents of the state-of-the-art outdoor garden (held indoors if raining, which is still really cool). Classes are Tuesdays throughout the summer with varying times and instructors. equinox.com
At Fenway Park.
The 2013 Fenway Yogathon will take place Monday, September 23 and you can choose between a sunrise or a sunset session. Participants must raise $250 for the Red Sox Foundation, which benefits inner city baseball and softball programs for kids. Yes, $250 is a bit steep, but it’s for charity and you get to do yoga ON THE FIELD at Fenway Park. We’re already signed up. fenwayyoga.com
On a paddleboard.
Yoga on a paddleboard is awesome. You can burn up to 500 calories and hour and there are multiple locations in and around Boston to choose from. Also, most are on flat water so you don’t have to worry about being anchored or steadying the board over the waves. Most classes will provide a board or you can rent one.
At the Arnold Arboretum.
The first and third Sundays of the month, Branching Out Yoga hosts a donation yoga class near Dawson Pond at the Arnold Arboretum from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Is there a more beautiful place in Boston? Branching Out also hosts a free yoga class at the Roslindale Farmer’s Market.
On the Rooftop at the Revere Hotel.
Lululemon Athletica on Newbury is hosting free yoga classes Tuesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the rooftop at the Revere Hotel on the private event space side, for both hotel guests and the public. Space is limited so you have to sign up in advance before attending. Hotel guests can sign up through Revere Hotel’s concierge, and non-hotel guests should email araymer@lululemon.com to be added to the list. If you don’t have a mat there will be some available on loan.
