The new partnership will promote healthy eating (and not doughnuts).

The new $30 million YMCA in Quincy (which was built right next to the old one that is currently being torn down) just opened in late-December and offers the standard YMCA amenities (pool, basketball courts, cardio equipment, free weights, and group fitness classes) in addition to a massive 30,000 sq. ft “field house” with a turf field and walking/running track. But one thing that no other YMCA can claim is a doughnut shop on its first floor.

The Patriot Ledger is reporting that Honey Dew Donuts will lease first-floor counter space from the Y, and it will open within the next few weeks:

On Tuesday, the city’s licensing board approved a plan to open a Honey Dew Donuts at the café counter inside the new $30 million YMCA at 79 Coddington St. It will be the only Honey Dew store in Quincy.

Sara Trubiano, marketing director at the Quincy YMCA, tells us that the Y and Honey Dew will work together to come up with a healthy and nutritious menu. “This is not going to be your typical Honey Dew,” she says. “It will be tailored to the healthy lifestyle the Y supports.”

The new Honey Dew will sell coffee, low-fat muffins, salads, sandwiches, yogurt, fruit cups, and smoothies—but not doughnuts. “All menu items first must be approved,” Trubiano says. “There will not be doughnuts.”
