Newburyport Doctor Says Michelle Obama Needs to ‘Lose a Few’
The First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, has set the standard for healthy eating through her “Let’s Move” campaign. She’s also been lauded for her amazing physique, including a covetable pair of arms that would make Jillian Michaels jealous.
So you can imagine my shock when I saw this Tweet flow through my Twitter stream:
Dear @keithablow please keep your comments about women “dropping a few” to yourself. Sincerely, all women. #outnumbered

On the daytime Fox News show, Outnumbered, the group was discussing FLOTUS’s school lunch plans and how not everyone is onboard. Then, Dr. Keith Albow chimes in and fat shames Michelle Obama. He says, well, stutters, “How well could she be eating? She needs to drop a few.”
Oh snap.
His female colleagues are clearly appalled. Kennedy—yes, Kennedy from the early days of MTV—even looks at him with a “What?” expression. Others, while they are not on camera, say things such as, “You did not just say that,” and my personal favorite, “Are we on a seven-second delay?”
You wish, Fox News. You wish.
But no, Ablow will not back down. He goes on to say, “Let’s be honest, there’s no French fries happening? That’s all kale and carrots? I don’t buy it.”
Ablow should look in the mirror before making comments about anyone else’s waistline. He’s an MD, but if we’re doling out unsolicited advice, he too could afford to lose way more than “a few.” And when I say MD, I mean a psychiatrist—not an internist or a registered dietitian, the people who are actually qualified to give out healthy eating advice.
Sure, this is just one more example of a man making ridiculous comments about a woman’s appearance. Except this man has a platform, a huge platform where he could be doing good, and instead he fat shames the First Lady of the United States. What a shame. Perhaps Fox News should look into getting a real registered dietitian to make comments about nutrition and not some overweight blowhard from Newburyport.
The worst part is that here is a guy who has not only made money off of his patients over the years, but a media firestorm like this one will perhaps only give him more fodder for his 15th book.
Watch the cringe-worthy segment below. His fat shaming is at the 1:45 mark.
