Lahey Hospital & Medical Center’s cancer center will soon have some new art to display.

On August 18, Lahey will welcome PaintFest America, an initiative sponsored by the Foundation for Hospital Art that brightens the days and hallways of cancer centers across the United States. At each facility it visits—and it’s stopped at one in a different state every day since July 5—PaintFest helps cancer patients, survivors, and community members create murals to be displayed on the hospital’s walls.

In addition to creating murals for the hospitals to keep, at each tour stop PaintFest asks a cancer patient and a cancer survivor to paint a state-specific piece of artwork, to be added to its national mural project. The final product will be unveiled August 23 in New York.

When PaintFest comes to Massachusetts next week, all interested community members are encouraged to lend a brush, though the focus of the event will be on cancer patients and survivors. And don’t worry, no artistic skill is required—the mural is paint-by-numbers style.

Event will take place on 8/18 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center’s East Lobby, 41 Mall Road, Burlington. Visit hospitalart.org for more information on attending or volunteering.
