Danvers Man Confesses to Stealing Eight-Foot-Long Rowing Machine

For some, the urge to erg is too strong.

Flipping tires wasn’t enough for one local man.

Video surveillance footage captured early Monday morning shows a man dragging a Concept 2 Model E rowing machine—valued at $1,100, measuring eight feet in length, and weighing 65 pounds—out the door of Southborough’s Pennant CrossFit. While illegal, this was probably quite an effective strength-training workout.

Detectives in Southborough, Sudbury, and Watertown worked together on the case. They questioned 39-year-old James Rooney at his home in Danvers, where they say he confessed to the crime, WCVB reports. Evidence was also found in his home.

Rooney has been charged with two counts of felony larceny in Southborough, and WCVB reports he is suspected of similar crimes in Sudbury and Watertown.
