Dana-Farber, Brigham and Women’s Have an “Urgent Need” for Blood and Platelets

Summer months may have you in vacation mode, but if you have a couple of hours to spare today, spend them at the Kraft Family Blood Donor Center.

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, both of which are served by the Kraft Center, have an “urgent need” for blood and platelets due to a summer lull in donations, according to an announcement from Dana-Farber.

Many cancer patients need blood cells and platelets—which help the body mend tissue and stop bleeding—as chemotherapy can leave individuals with strained supplies. Blood transfusions can also be critical for trauma victims, women with pregnancy complications, and those with blood disorders.
