Run for the Kids 5k: Join the Peloton Foundation’s Boston region for the fifth annual 5k around the Esplanade. All proceeds go to Room to Grow, a nonprofit ensuring babies born into poverty have everything they need to learn, grow, and succeed in life. Head to MJ O’Connors Pub for refreshments afterwards.

Allston Brighton 5k: Join the Allston-Brighton Substance Abuse Task Force for a 5k walk for recovery at Herter Park. The walk is free, but there is a suggested donation of $20. The walk will feature a DJ, face painting, and kids’ games, as well as breakfast and other fun activities.

Cambridge Oktoberfest 5K: Check out this funky fall road race that circles around Kendall Square for a German-themed 5k (yes, people will be wearing their finest Oktoberfest outfits) and then head to the roof deck of CambridgeSide Galleria for Notch Brewing and Bantam Cider. Registration includes a pretty cool quarter-zip running shirt, three drink tickets, and fresh baked pretzels.
