Escape the City and Go on a River Tubing Excursion This Summer

By this time in the summer, you’ve probably been to the beach, checked some things off your summer bucket list, and likely have hit the pool. Why not shake it up with a river tubing excursion?

If you’re car-less and in need of an escape from the city, look to Sourced Adventures. A New York City-based adventure travel company, with the mission to make the outdoors more accessible and affordable for everyone, has started offering summer excursions out of Boston. This summer, on July 27 and August 10, you can pick up a bus from Harvard Square in Cambridge or the North Face store on Newbury Street and head to the Farmington River in Connecticut. It’s about a two-hour drive.

Once there, you’ll be given an inner tube and well-wishes as you set off to float down the river for nearly three hours. It’ll serve as a lazy respite from all the hustle and bustle in the city. Bring your own cooler with snacks and drinks, and indulge a little. After all, fresh-air and nature does a body and mind good.

After tubing, you’ll travel to a local brewery for catered lunch and drinks, if you choose. Typically the brewery is Brewery Legitimus in New Hartford, but is subject to change. And because transportation is already taken care of, you won’t have to worry about assigning a designated driver.

The trip is only for those 21 and older. You should bring water, sunscreen, a bathing suit, and dry clothes to change into. Sourced Adventures recommends wearing water shoes, or something that stays on your feet (no flip-flops), for safety reasons.

In the winter, look for all-inclusive ski trips from Sourced Adventures. Including ones to Sunday River and Crotched Mountain, as well as snow tubing trips.
