Make a Run for It! Once Again it’s Time to Register for the Boston Marathon
Registration for the 2020 Boston Marathon opens on September 9 at 10 a.m. Here's who can register when, and the qualifying times for all divisions.
Runners on your mark, get set, go. It’s time to start thinking about marathon training again. The 2020 Boston Marathon registration opens on Monday.
For those who dream of crossing the finish line on Boylston Street, and have met the qualifying standard for their respective age group and division, registration opens at 10 a.m on September 9.
The “rolling admission” registration process, which allows the fastest qualifiers to register first, will once again be used. It was introduced in 2012 by The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) due to the increase in demand to run the marathon.
Here’s what you need to know:
Monday, September 9 at 10 a.m.: Participants who have met the qualifying standard by 20 minutes or more may apply for entry.
Wednesday, September 11 at 10 a.m.: Participants who have met the qualifying standard by 10 minutes or more may apply.
Friday, September 13 at 10 a.m.: Participants who have met the qualifying standard by 5 minutes or more may apply.
Monday, September 16 at 10 a.m.: All participants who have met the qualifying standard my apply for entry.
Registration closes for the first week on Saturday, September 14 at 5 p.m. and Wednesday, September 18 at 5 p.m for the second week. Each registration time after Monday, September 9 will be based off space constraints and may close early. If space still remains after September 18, registration will reopen to anyone who met the qualifying standard.
New this year, the Para Athletics Division—including competitive wheelchair racers, vision impaired athletes, and those who run with protheses or have an upper limb impairment—will function the same.
As for those prestigious qualifying times? They are faster than last year—by five minutes to be exact—for each age group. To check your age group and division standards visit the B.A.A. website. All qualifying times must be verified and have been recorded on or after September 15, 2018.
And don’t be discouraged if you qualify and don’t make the cut. Last year, over 7,000 runners who qualified were turned away due to the increase in demand. The field size, for the last five years, has been set at 30,000.
We’ll see you in Hopkinton.
Registration fee is $205 for United States residents and $255 for international residents. To register: baa.org.
