Jordan Health Systems and BIDMC Sign Affiliation Agreement
Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) and Jordan Health Systems, Inc. (JHSI) signed an affiliation agreement Thursday that will bring JHSI into the BIDMC conglomerate.
Under the new agreement, BIDMC will become the parent company of JHSI and Jordan Hospital which serves 12 towns in Plymouth and Barnstable counties. Jordan Hospital will continue to manage the clinics.
In a statement, Jordan CEO Peter Holden says:
“This is a powerful alliance for our region,” Holden said. “A teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, Beth Israel Deaconess is a world-renowned medical institution. They share our values and bring tremendous depth to everyone we serve in the Plymouth area and beyond.”
Yet another merger on the list of recent acquisitions by BIDMC, the plan is to increase the number of primary care physicians and specialists in the Plymouth area, which would enable a number of patients to stay closer to home for treatment.
Some JHSI doctors will be appointed to the Harvard Medical School faculty which allows two-way access to electronic medical records and additional specialty services. Under the new agreement, Jordan Hospital will also likely change its name.
In the report, Dr. Kevin Tabb, the president and CEO of BIDMC, also spoke highly of the merger:
“We are pleased to welcome Jordan Hospital into our growing network of community hospitals and physician groups,” said Dr. Tabb. “We look forward to working with Jordan to care for southeastern Massachusetts residents in a way that is fundamental to our long-standing philosophy to provide the right care in the right place at the right time.”
