Richard Sweeney is the founder and Managing Partner of Sweeney & Associates, a criminal defense firm in Quincy. An experienced and proven criminal lawyer representing clients in both State and Federal Courts. A multi-year winner of Boston Magazine's Top Lawyers he has successfully defended clients in drug crimes, OUI, Sex Offenses, Domestic Crimes and all other criminal offenses including RMV problems. Having defended clients in two of the largest child pornography cases in the nation and countless state-wide cases, he has established a reputation for being one of the state’s most trusted attorneys for child pornography charges, drug crimes and criminal defense litigation. Born and raised in Dorchester he attended Boston Latin School, Suffolk University and New England Law Boston.

Attorney Sweeney has extensive experience defending those accused of serious sex offenses, and also has a unique advantage when defending drug crimes. He is a retired Boston Police Sergeant who commanded an elite Drug unit and spent numerous years training officers in Police Academies across the state. Because of his police experience he has successfully represented thousands of Boston area students in everything from Drug Crimes to RMV issues and college students caught with Fake IDs.

Attorney Sweeney is the former President of The Bar Association of Norfolk County and was a member of the Mass Bar Association’s Joint Bar Committee on Judicial Appointments from 2013-2019. He is actively involved in numerous legal and professional associations throughout the community. He focuses his practice on the defense of criminal charges and is licensed to represent clients in District, Superior, and Federal Courts.
