On Saturday, April 7, 2018, Commonwealth Shakespeare Company (CSC) held its Annual Gala at the Taj Hotel in Boston, where $240,000 was raised to support this summer’s Free Shakespeare on the Common production of Richard III.
The evening began with a cocktail party followed by a sit-down dinner, during which there was a live auction for one item: a “VIP Shakespeare on the Common and Boston Chops Experience.” This included a private dinner for 12 in the wine vault of the new downtown crossing Boston Chops, 12 Friend’s Section seats at Richard III, and a backstage tour during the run of show. A “fund in need” live thermometer showed on the screen, which raised $52,000 in a matter of minutes. There were surprise gifts donated by Tiffany’s for donors of $1,000 or more. Dessert and dancing with DJ Mario followed.
