Local School Principal Introduces Himself with Awkward Video

The new principal of Everett High School made a video parodying the film The Terminator to introduce himself to students, and it rather unfortunately seems to evoke comparisons to the recent mass violence in our nation's schools. Erick Naumann, the principal, calls himself the “Naumannator” in the video, which aired on the morning announcements. He stalks the halls as a terrified woman flee from him. At the end of the video, a teacher asks where all the students have gone and he says they've been “Naumannated.” We're sure the comparison to school violence is unintended. He probably just wanted to introduce himself in a fun way, appear authoritative, and relate to students (with cultural references from 1984… about a decade before high school students were born, but whatever.) Still, it's hard to wonder how anyone could watch this video and not recall the horrifying reports of shooters roaming hallways, stalking students and teachers alike, that we've been forced to read all to often this year.

Everett's superintendent, Fred Foresteire didn't shy away from that point. “It's inappropriate for a school setting especially given the atmosphere across the country as a result of the situations we’ve been having in schools,” he tells WHDH. The school board will make some kind of decision in reaction to the video, the station reports. He's probably hoping they don't “naumanate” his employment…
