Dunkin’ Donuts Is Expanding to Southern California. Dunkin’ announced in a news release and blog post from CEO Nigel Travis that the company has recruited multi-unit franchisees in Los Angeles, Riverside, San Diego, San Bernardino, Ventura, and Orange counties. SoCal will start running on Dunkin’ in 2015, according to the release.  [h/t Boston Business Journal]

Retired Federal Judge Adds to Criticism of Carmen Ortiz. Gertner, a federal judge in Boston for 17 years, says she was troubled by what she “saw and learned” during her time on the bench. Now, from afar, she’s troubled by what she sees with the prosecution of Aaron Swartz in the time leading up to his suicide on Friday. She told WBUR: “At the time of the indictment, [Ortiz] said, ‘Stealing is stealing.’ … This is a classic line. Stealing an apple if you’re hungry is different than Bernie Madoff. Mother of 13-Year-Old Shot in Roxbury Wants Shooter to Surrender to Police. Shirley Clarke, Gabriel Clarke’s mother who hasn’t left his side since he entered the hospital on Friday night, plead for the shooter to surrender to authorities. “Gabriel didn’t deserve this,” she said at a press conference Tuesday. “The community didn’t deserve this. There’s been enough hurt. There’s been enough damage. There’s been enough suffering.” The bullet that tore through Gabriel’s intestines will likely remain lodged in his back near his spine for the rest of his life.  [Globe | Herald]
