Citizens Disconnect: Get Those Sox Some Runs, Please!
With the Citizens Connect app and website, Boston allows its residents to take a picture of a problem, send it to the city along with their precise location, and request help. The site is filled with complaints about trash on the sidewalk, potholes, and dead trees. It also contains the occasional oddity. Welcome to “Citizens Disconnect,” the third in a series wherein we round up our favorite few from the past week:
The City Really Dropped the Ball on This One
Concerned Citizen #1: “Red Sox lagging. Please give them some runs.”
City Response: “Closed. Case noted.”
Case noted?! You didn’t do anything, City of Boston. You didn’t give them any runs! You let them lose!
It Beats Having Them Do It in Your Bushes
Concerned Citizen: “Construction debris not even on trash day pickup. college kids passing by tonight partying. dread to think how this will end up smelling tomorrow . $ 20.00 says someone will poop or puke in it tonight ! Any takers !?!?”
City Response: Still open.
Quite the imagination this complainer has. But also, realistically, this is probably a legitimate fear.
Zen Complaint of the Day
Concerned citizen: “Smells very much like urine under the bridge in the public garden. Very much.”
City response: “Case Resolved. Powerwashed under bridge.”
We just like the calm manner in which this person muses on what might have caused the bridge to smell like urine. Whatever could it have been? At any rate, the calm demeanor seems to have been rewarded, because the city followed up.
‘Wait, What a Horrible Story’ Award
Concerned Citizen: “Broken slide is covered with wood. kids still (if not more) play on it bc it makes a tunnel and can climb over it. A child fell head first this week, unconscious for a while. Please fix!!!!”
City Response: None yet.
Yeah, we did not see this complaint taking such a violent turn. Hope the kid’s okay!
