The Red Sox Got Invited to the White House

During his trip to Boston last week ahead of Game 6 of the World Series, President Barack Obama wouldn’t put on a Red Sox hat as he walked off of Air Force One at Logan Airport.

But now that the Sox clinched the title, he invited to team over to his place to celebrate.

According to a statement from White House officials, President Obama called up Red Sox Manager John Farrell on Monday to congratulate him and the team on their third World Series win in the past decade.

Obama “noted the great job” that Farrell did in his first year managing the team after a shaky 2012 season, and “remarked on the incredible pitching performance by Koji Uehara,” officials said in the statement.

Obama also singled-out David Ortiz, and “extended his congratulations” on being named the World Series MVP. “The President said he looks forward to welcoming the Red Sox to the White House to congratulate them in person,” according to White House staff.

The Associated Press reports that the team will likely “make the traditional champions’ White House visit next year,” around the season-opener in Baltimore in April.

Let’s hope nobody pulls a Tim Thomas.
