How Tom Brady and Bill Belichick Reacted to Monday’s Game-Ending Non-Call

As when an official call decided the Patriots’ game against the Jets, both Tom Brady and Bill Belichick sounded the familiar party line: the Patriots should have been in a position where it didn’t come down to one call. But obviously, neither of them wished that one call had been so. This manifested in familiar ways: Brady got salty, and Belichick had no patience for reporters.

In this case, the Patriots were down 20-24 against the Panthers when Brady threw the ball for Rob Gronkowski in the endzone, but was intercepted. Referee Clete Blakeman threw a flag. It seemed to be a holdingpass interference call against the defenders guarding Gronkowski, but then he picked it up, declared no penalty on the play and the end of the game. As after the Jets game, plenty of fans don’t think the officials got it right. In the video above, you can see Brady swearing at the ref as they run off the field.

Meanwhile, Belichick resumed his traditional posture of disdaining the reporters asking him different versions of the same question at his post-game press conference. Here are some of our favorite answers he gave to various questions, most of them about the final call:

“I saw the same thing you saw.”

“So what’s the question?”

“No.”

“There was no explanation given to me.”

“I saw what you saw Tom.”

“I can’t answer that question.”

It’s not the best Belichick press conference performance we’ve ever seen, but it’s a solid also-ran.
