Citizens Disconnect: Where the Streets Have the Wrong Name

A roundup of our favorite requests for city services made on the Citizens Connect app this week.

With the Citizens Connect app and website, Boston allows its residents to take a picture of a problem and send it to the city along with their precise location. The site is filled with complaints about trash on the sidewalk, potholes, and dead trees. It also contains the occasional oddity. Welcome to “Citizens Disconnect,” the series wherein we round up our favorite few from the past week:

Real World Typos

Concerned Citizen: “The new street sign has spelt Eliot wrong – it should have only one L.”

City Response: “Closed. Case Resolved. Work completed 12/12/13.”

Oops! So it should ….

The Most Depressing Request Ever

Concerned Citizen: “The new street lights don’t come on when it’s dark, like now. The turn on at 5:30. Could the timing be adjusted?

City Response: “Closed. Case Resolved. Case resolved.”

God, asking someone to turn on the lights before 5:30 p.m. is a real sad problem to have. Winter, everyone. It’s the worst.

Welcome to the Northeast?

Concerned citizen: “Many sidewalks in the neighborhood are covered with snow and ice.”

City Response: “Closed. Case Resolved.”

Obviously it’s a reasonable request to ask that the sidewalks be salted. But the way this poster doesn’t actulaly explicitly make that request and instead just states the obvious tickled us.

World Series Remants

Concerned Citizen: “During the Boston Red Sox World Series clinch game, the Stop sign got pulled down by fans. There is no longer a Stop sign at the corner of 8 The Fenway and The Massachusetts Historical Society. The City of Boston collected the Stop sign a few weeks ago but have not put up a new one. Vehicles are driving down Fenway extremely fast and taking a right turn onto Boylston St. without stopping and it’s becoming very dangerous. This is a request for this Stop sign to be re-installed. Thank you very much.”

Yeah, their bad
